Municipal Public Service Tax and Franchise Fee accounting and payments. SAP, Excel, limited Access, very detail oriented.
This position is responsible for compliance and accounting pertaining to Tampa Electric Company, Gas & Electric Divisions, municipal public service (utility) taxes, franchise fees, regulatory assessment fees and other accounting duties as required by the Director of Accounting.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare work papers and supporting documentation for tax and fee compliance and ensure correct and timely payments.
Prepare monthly accounting entries to record franchise fee and regulatory assessment fee expenses. Adhere to policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
Ensure monthly tax payments are mailed or wired timely.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the preparation of various monthly reports and filings.
Assist, as needed, other areas of the accounting department.
. This is a very deadline driven position. It’ s not super difficult, but it requires someone very dependable, conscientious and detailed. It may develop in to more duties, but the most important issue is the tax payments
Required: Minimum of an Associate’ s Degree in Accounting, Finance and/or Business from an accredited college.
Preferred: Bachelor’ s Degree in Accounting, Finance and/or Business from an accredited college.
Required: Proficiency using MS Excel, Access and Word. Must have strong written and oral communication skills. The ability to learn quickly, document processes, and follow through. The ability to develop and maintain a professional working relationship with state and local tax authorities is required. Ability to organize, work under tight reporting deadlines, attention to detail, initiative, execution, dependability and forward thinking are crucial to this position.
Preferred: Working knowledge of SAP system. Knowledge of electric & gas utility billing and accounting, utility bill taxes and fees, billing rate calculations and utility bill tax and fee calculations. The ability to explain to customers, taxing authorities and company personnel, the details behind tax/fee components of the utility bill.
