Director of Product Management

Responsible for leading commercial product strategy development.  This includes oversight of a Product Management team, leading short and long-term product roadmap development, overseeing competitive intelligence efforts and leading the business case process

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Demonstrate leadership in the development of a strong Product Management team
Hold team accountable for quality of their work and responsiveness to needs from field and delegate and empower team to lead key strategic projects with your oversight
Establish structure for team check-ins/dept. meetings (ex. Weekly 1: 1s and dept. group meetings on a standing basis- to help set priorities, share information, provide coaching/guidance)
Lead development of new product strategy and product roadmap based on customer and market insights
Lead strategic product roadmap exercise in collaboration with Engineering and Sales
Lead Product Strategy Board in concert with sales co-champions to define new product development via customer and market insights
Oversee process for evaluation of new product and technology offerings that fall outside of annual platform upgrades
Work with product managers to gain and apply customer insights to product development and roadmap through extensive research and competitive analyses as well as customer visits and ongoing analysis of product and vertical data
Oversee development of comprehensive product specifications that accurately capture customer/market demands.
Oversee product portfolio management, including product discontinuation & lifecycle management and work with all key stakeholders to define and implement a seamless transition process
Mobilize Product Management and extended teams to address key business issues in a timely manner as they arise and anticipate business impact of new processes, etc.
Work closely with Engineering, Marketing, Operations and Sales to articulate product and service offerings, key benefits and messages for use by sales and marketing
Serve as key liaison to department leads on a frequent standing basis to support ongoing communication and address issues in the field related to products

Expected to have and develop knowledge of products, applications/industries, customers, and competitors and are the champions for ensuring product development, launches and lifecycle meet the needs of all key global stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in building and implementing product development and product management processes

Proven track record and experience in creating new product road maps and implementing a product roadmap strategy
The prospective candidate should be a highly motivated individual and driven leader who can thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Qualified candidate should be a visionary with a track record of success in developing new products and product management

Ability to influence and push back against sales and engineering serving as a liaison between these two units


REQUIRED BACKGROUND:

BA/ BS Degree or equivalent experience
Eight or more years of product management experience
Experience managing direct reports related to product management
Demonstrated progressive responsibility with at least three years of strategic planning, product development and product lifecycle management
Experience with salesforce.com or a similar CRM
Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

PREFERRED BACKGROUND:

Background in Engineering for smart technologies, telecommunications, radio frequency, bluetooth or industrial technology products
Electrical or Mechanical Engineering background
Master Degree level education with a focus in engineering or marketing
