The Medical Customer Specialist displays excellent customer service.  Responsibilities include greeting and checking in patients/visitors, scheduling appointments, answering incoming calls, taking messages, collecting co-pays, scanning medical documentation, identifying insurance coverage, working with patient referrals, end of day closing tasks, and tasking using Electronic Health Records (E.H.R.).  This role requires the passing of a Medical Terminology assessment, an E.H.R. Competency, and a TouchWorks Practice Management software competency within 90 days of employment.


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service
  • Experience with computers and the ability to learn, navigate and function in various computer applications
  • Strong, clear, English telephone and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task successfully and efficiently
  • Ability to be a dynamic team player with a positive attitude
  • Flexibility in meeting the demands of all office operations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to comply with HIPAA guidelines
  • Minimum typing speed of 30 wpm required         


  • Medical Office or Hospital Unit Clerk experience preferred
  • Related educational training preferred
  • Experience in co-pay collection or cashier experience preferred
