Sr. Director of Finance
Job Description
The Senior Director of Finance directs the financial activities of the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises the Accounting Department.
- Produces timely and accurate monthly financial statements for company in accordance with generally accepted accounting procedures (GAAP)
- Ensures that financial and accounting activities are effective, efficient and follow all GAAP rules, laws/regulations and best practices
- Analyzes, reviews and reconciles monthly financial bank and investment statements
- Prepares annual agency budget, prepares program budgets for grant applications and completes financial reports required by grantors
- Monitors company's risks and ensures that the risks are minimized
- Manages company's cash flow and cash flow forecasts
- Provides relevant financial reporting to senior management and recommends improvements
- Develops strategic financial goals (operating budget, forecast, etc.)
- Prepares for and oversees annual corporate audit to include the preparation of 990
- Manages the administration of payroll and 403b plan
- Ensures that accurate files are kept and up to date in compliance with accounting policies and procedures
- Recommends and implements changes to new or existing standardized processes and procedures
- Monitors internal controls and provides recommendations for improvements
- Oversees preparation of reports to external grant funders and governmental agencies
- Serves as main financial liaison to outside vendors
- Works closely with CEO and senior management on financial issues
- Updates and writes accounting policies and procedures/internal controls
- Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations
- Promotes the stewardship of the organization's financial resources
- Develops performance indicators and measurement systems for tracking strategic/financial plan objectives
- Evaluates current business models and leads efforts to modify or redesign business models where necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Education
- Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or finance required
- Master's degree in accounting and/or finance preferred
Experience
- 7+ years of responsible financial and accounting management experience

- Judgment-the individual displays willingness to make decisions, exhibits sound and accurate judgment and makes timely decisions
- Planning/organizing-the individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.
- Safety and security-the individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.
