This Contract Technician is responsible for the installation, programming, testing, and maintenance of various types of Telecommunications equipment and systems.
Systems include CISCO/Nortel Fiber Optics (SONET, DWDM, DS0 up to OC-192), Microwave, Telephone Systems & Associated Physical Infrastructure (PBXs, subscriber sets, wiring, Network Interfaces), Wireless Systems (Two-way radio, paging, SCADA, siren control systems), Data Network, and common equipment including Antenna Networks (Towers, feedlines, combiners, duplexers), Power Equipment (emergency generators, batteries, inverters, UPS, transfer panels) and Grounding systems. Test and turn-up require skill sets with a multitude of specialized test and operational equipment specifically geared for major RF Systems, Fiber Systems, High-Speed Data Networks and Large DC Power Plant Systems.
Read and understand Project Installation Instructions. (Understand system and component level impact)
Confer directly with Engineering and/or Project Managers on project details and related issues.
Install, test, and turn-up equipment/systems.
Communicate with customers before performing installation work that may cause outages or system alarms.
Communicate project status to management and any problems encountered the project instructions, equipment, or system with Engineering
Perform real-time analysis to ensure that installed equipment meets the conceptual and tactical designs requirements. Makes real-time adjustments to conceptual and tactical designs based on existing status if installed infrastructure.
Be proficient with the use of numerous specialized test equipment including OTDR, DS1/DS3 Tests, DC Plant Load Banks, DC Load Bank Resistance Testing, SONET OC3/OC12/OC48, Ethernet Testing, RF Spectrum Analyzer, RF Service Monitors, RF Power Meters, RF Frequency Counters and Fiber Splicing Equipment.
Eight or more years’ experience in the installation/maintenance of telecommunication networks and equipment.
Proven trouble-shooting skills with an understanding of Data, Fiber Optics, Microwave, Wireless, and Voice Networks and proven ability to maintain and install these systems and associated equipment.
Able to use various telecommunications test equipment to assist with problem resolution and equipment installation.
Two-year degree in electronics or associated technical degree.
Driver’ s License with the ability to obtain CDL (DOT Physical).

In depth working knowledge of Fiber Optics, Microwave, Telephone, Data Network, and Wireless systems
Factory and in-house training classes on systems listed above
Working knowledge of Telecom Tools such as Remedy and Outlook.
