Summary:

Electronics Technician III has expertise in the installation, service, repair and maintenance of electronic security systems.  Must be certified, trained and experienced in the installation, repair and troubleshooting of Electronic Security Systems, as defined below. Duties are to be performed at multiple domestic government facilities in the National Capital Region.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position)

 
  • Reading and interpreting electrical and security drawings and schematics
  • Reading and interpreting building plans (blueprints)
  • Use of electronic security test and repair equipment – meters, OTDR, etc.
  • Low voltage electronic security systems
  • Bench test/repair of electronic security equipment to the component level

 

Specialization Duties and Responsibilities: (to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily with large emphasis being on PACS, IDS and CCTV).

 
  • Mechanical and Electronic Locking Hardware – HES, Von-Duprin
  • Closed Circuit Television Systems / Video Surveillance Systems – Avigilon, Bosch, Genetec, Salient
  • Physical Access Control Systems – AMAG, Hirsch, Lenel, MDI, Softwarehouse
  • Intrusion Detection Systems – Ademco, Bosch, DMP
  • Intercom Systems – Aiphone, Talk-a-Phone

 

Minimum Qualifications: Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Have a strong working knowledge and understanding of electronic security hardware and software, access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance equipment and public- address systems
  • Have a strong working knowledge and understanding of electric principals
  • Ability to use diagnostic equipment/software and established troubleshooting techniques to isolate network deficiencies, equipment failures and operational anomalies
  • Ability to read, interpret electrical schematics and architectural drawings
  • Reading and adhering to blueprints and design plans for the installation of sub-level devices on large or complex jobs and head end equipment on small or less complex jobs
  • Reading and understanding component level schematic diagrams for systems, equipment and devices
  • Identifying appropriate cables from drawings and running cables/fiber per installation design plans
  • Repairing and maintaining electronic security system equipment
  • Testing continuity of conductor(s) or breaks in fiber
  • Terminating basic connections such as butt splices, insulated connectors, terminal strips/blocks and BNC connectors
  • Mounting and terminating field devices (Readers, Door Contacts, REXs, Cameras)
  • Installing and Terminating sub-level devices on large or complex jobs and head end equipment on small or less complex jobs to include power and proper grounding
  • Terminating and testing voice and data connections
  • Performing field verification testing
  • Understanding the infrastructure relationships between trades

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

 
  • (to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform all essential duties and at least three of the Specialization duties satisfactorily.)
  • At least six years’ experience in non-residential electronics installation & troubleshooting is required with a high school degree; or at least four years’ experience coupled with Graduation from the US Navy or Air Force Electronics Training Program with a minimum of 720 class room hours or Graduation from an Accredited Electronic Apprentice Program with a high school degree; or at least three years’ experience with an AA/AS in Electronics from an accredited program; or at least two years’ experience with a BS/BA in Electronics from an accredited program.
