In this role, you' ll serve as a valued team member who provides Enterprise level recommendations based on capacity projections and application usage to senior leadership, handles escalation issues as they arise, and supports deployment of new technologies or architectures in the Washington, D.C. office.

• Make architecture recommendations to support the growing needs of the  based on new application deployments

• Test the recommendations for enterprise compatibility in the state of the art network design lab

• Provide on-call escalation support in the event that an issue arises that cannot be rectified by the network operations team

• Write white papers on new technology uses and how it will help support the mission

• Use existing Network Management tools to provide capacity management/utilization reports Mandatory

Qualifications 

• Master' s Degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required.

5 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education

• 10 years relevant experience is required

• 5+ years’ experience in a large enterprise environment involving network architecture and management, to include: o Knowledge and understanding of Network management and application analysis tools is required (NetScout, SolarWinds) and (OpNet preferred) o Experience with router and switch administration (Cisco experience preferred) o Understanding of capacity management/planning techniques and processes o An in-depth knowledge/understanding of carrier circuits to include, but not limited to OC3, DS3, T1, and Ethernet Transport Services. o Ability to work across multiple projects; provide written/verbal status updates on each project on a regular basis to the team lead, Program Manager and customer o BGP, OSPF, EIGRP knowledge o Knowledgeable with MPLS-VPN carrier offerings o Knowledgeable of VoIP solutions

• Ability to effectively interact with executive level Veterans Administrative staff

• Desire to learn new technologies and methods of data/voice communication Competency:

 • Extensive knowledge in specialized functions. A wide and comprehensive understanding of, both general and specific aspects of the job and its application 

• Develops technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity 

• Duties may require traveling, being on call periodically, and occasionally working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends) Background Investigation:

• Must be able to pass a government Tier 4 High Background Investigation. U.S. citizenship is also required by law, regulation, executive order, or government contract for this particular position 

• Strong understanding of IPv6

• Experience with Riverbed (formerly OpNet) software suite

  5+ years’ experience in a large enterprise environment involving network architecture and management

• Certifications: CCNP or higher preferred
