Controller
Job Description
Overview:
The Controller oversees all financial functions of the organization, ensuring sound fiscal management, compliance, and strategic planning to support our mission. This role supervises accounting staff and partners closely with leadership, HR, and program teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting
- Manage daily financial transactions, including A/P, A/R, payroll, and general ledger.
- Lead monthly closings and prepare accurate, timely financial reports.
- Monitor financial performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Prepare tax filings and coordinate annual audits.
Audit & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Serve as the point of contact for external audits.
- Implement audit recommendations and enhance internal controls.
Grants & Budgeting
- Lead grant budgeting and financial reporting.
- Ensure grant compliance and timely submission of required reports.
- Support foundation and government funding proposals and audits.
Payroll & Benefits
- Oversee payroll processing and systems (e.g., ADP Workforce Now).
- Partner with HR to ensure accurate benefits administration and reporting.
Strategic & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Support new system implementations and organizational planning.
- Collaborate with HR, programs, and grants teams for budgeting and reporting.
- Develop vendor and partner relationships.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
- Promote a positive, high-performance team culture.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in accounting, including 2+ years in leadership roles.
- Nonprofit and grant management experience preferred.
- Proficiency with financial tools: ADP, Sage Intacct, Blackbaud, Salesforce, Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle access required.
