Job Description
Kavaliro is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Network Engineer to join our Jacksonville client. This role involves extensive travel to various locations to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade network infrastructure, primarily during third-shift hours to minimize operational disruptions. The ideal candidate will have experience with network hardware, software configurations, and troubleshooting methodologies while demonstrating strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Deployment & Maintenance: Install, configure, and maintain network equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points at multiple locations.
- Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues, hardware/software failures, and performance bottlenecks during off-hours.
- Upgrades & Patch Management: Perform network upgrades, firmware updates, and security patching as needed to maintain optimal network performance.
- Site Surveys & Documentation: Conduct site assessments, document network configurations, and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Collaboration & Communication: Work with internal IT teams, vendors, and clients to ensure successful network operations while providing timely updates on progress and issues.
- Compliance & Security: Ensure all network activities adhere to security best practices and compliance standards.
- Travel & Schedule Flexibility: Travel frequently to various locations and work overnight shifts, sometimes on short notice.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 3+ years of experience in network engineering, preferably in a field or traveling role.
- Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, or other enterprise networking equipment.
- Familiarity with firewall management and VPN technologies.
- Proficiency in network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (Wireshark, SolarWinds, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to travel extensively (up to 75% or more).
- Ability to work third-shift hours consistently.
- Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent.
- Experience with SD-WAN, cloud networking, and VoIP solutions.
- Knowledge of IT security practices and compliance frameworks.
- Experience working in retail, healthcare, or enterprise environments with distributed networks.
- Must be able to lift and install networking equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces if required.
- Extended travel, including overnight stays, may be necessary.
