UI Engineer
Job Description
Kavaliro is seeking a skilled User Interface Engineer for our client to enhance and maintain our existing web applications. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about creating exceptional user experiences and thrives in a fast-paced, problem-solving environment. You will collaborate with QA teams to ensure software quality, support product launches, and work with DevOps to address operational challenges.
In this role, you’ll contribute to system architecture discussions, including software, hardware, and communication components that support project requirements. You’ll assess technical options, recommend solutions, and create detailed UI specifications for development teams. You’ll also maintain and advocate for UI coding standards and may produce high-level design diagrams to guide development, testing, and deployment efforts.
Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with QA, DevOps, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software releases.

Participate in architectural design, ensuring solutions meet functional, technical, and cross-platform requirements.

Identify and recommend updates, upgrades, and enhancements to improve performance and usability.

Create detailed UI design documentation and contribute to design artifacts and white papers.

Develop responsive, cross-browser, high-performance user interfaces using modern frameworks.

Convert product design files (Figma, Photoshop, etc.) into production-ready web assets.

Apply design patterns to produce maintainable, scalable, and reusable code.

Support the full agile development lifecycle — from design and estimation to testing and deployment.

Facilitate team discussions to exchange ideas, evaluate new technologies, and improve development processes.

Work directly with SMEs to clarify requirements and ensure UI solutions meet user needs.

Engineer secure, reliable code with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Interaction Design, Multimedia Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).

5+ years of UI engineering experience on DoD or commercial projects.

Proven success building and launching high-traffic, customer-facing web applications.

Expert-level front-end development skills (HTML, CSS, preprocessors like SASS/LESS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks such as React, Angular, or Knockout; Angular preferred).

Strong understanding of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibility.

Experience converting design mockups into fully functional web components.

Ability to consistently deliver defect-free, well-performing work on schedule.

Comfortable analyzing requirements, designing secure solutions, and documenting implementation details.

Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to facilitate technical discussions and mentor peers.

Active U.S. Citizenship with an active DoD security clearance (or ability to obtain and maintain one).
Preferred Experience
-
Geospatial/interactive map UI design and development.
-
TypeScript, Flow, Node.js, Angular/AngularJS.
-
Build tools like Webpack, Rollup, Grunt, or Gulp.

Agile project management tools such as Jira.

Familiarity with AWS and related services.
- Relevant technical or Agile certifications (e.g., Certified Scrum Master, Microsoft MCSD/MCSE, SAFe).
